Hilltoppers
Each time that I've purchased property (3 times previously over the last 10 years), when I've walked into the house, I knew it was the right one. Didn't have to think about square feet, number of bedrooms, blah blah woof woof... I came I saw and I knew...
This most recent time (house #4) was no exception -- this past weekend, the Beloved and I went out shopping for for our new home here in Neptune (some people think of it as San Diego, but I'm choosing to live in Veronica Mars' universe tonight...). On the second house that we looked at, we just knew that we had found a new SBBM (Stately Betz & Beloved Manor). Bright, clean, quiet neighborhood -- it was, in fact in a neighborhood that we had targeted in our "lets think about where we want to live" days. One of the really striking features is that its at the top of this fairly steep hill, and this home is on the tippy top row of houses -- theoretically on very clear days, we can see the ocean several miles away on the horizon.
The house had just come on the market on Saturday and we made the offer on Sunday night, hoping that we might embody that old addage that "your first offer is your best offer". We steeled ourselves through Monday waiting for word, and what we would do with the inevitable counter-offer (we had offered what we thought was "fair" -- which is sort of ridiculous when buying real estate in Southern California -- but left ourselves some wiggle room). We got the word today that the sellers accepted -- no counter. Amazing! The cynical might say that we shoulda aimed a little lower, but I choose to think that we hit their "fair" price too, and they didn't want to scare off potential buyers with a counter. Hooray!!

I was just thinking about your home buying situation today.
Also, I happened to drive by Oceanside High School today and I thought...Neptune High as I drove by.
If you don't mind me asking, what part of town is The Manor?
Oceanside!!! I was trying to figure out where Neptune High was and I couldn't place it! The new abode is going to be in PQ, not too far from the preserve!
Congratulations!!! Gorgeous home, gorgeous view. Putting in a offer is so stressful when you know you've found the home and don't want to lose it. Well, it is for me anyway ;)
Jen - AHEM!! "all my VOX friends...l seem to live in CA." Do you see me over here in the Midwest?
and i agree with Hannahbanana - i'm an east coast kid! maybe all you CA people should come out here and visit. :)
Um, oops. You can't see me, but I'm hanging my head in shame. I really am.
Erin*Carly has a good idea -- we should all just meet up in the middle somewhere.
Hey -- I think TEXAS is in the middle...
Thank you all so much for you well-wishes! (what a great neighborhood I've got!)
Imagine the schwag that VOX might pony-up for an interstate-meet-up!
Of course there is!! Plenty of room! :D
PS Did you guys ever get anything in the mail from us?
SteveP: Hah -- yes, a long way from Camden -- but you can never take the city out of the kid, right?
.erin. -- hah, the Oceanside comment was about (Fish) making me aware of where Veronica goes to high school (where they film it)... we're actually a little ways south off of the 56.
byron -- more like a '29er!!
nice nice ... Now I know whom to harass if I'm ever down in San Diego :)
Congrats again
